ABOUT THE PROGRAM

We are thrilled to offer schools the opportunity to bring our talented artistic teaching staff into the classroom as Artists-in-Residence. Our artists work tirelessly all year-long to create exceptional and engaging performances with youth at our theater. We are now bringing those same skills into classroom so that every young person has the chance to be a part of a Mudlark experience.

Slice of Mudpie

Transforming original writing into performance

APPROPRIATE FOR GRADES 4 THROUGH 8

Let's make a Mudpie—a show shaped and molded from original pieces written by students, then performed by their peers. Mudlark instructors will work with students on original creative writing pieces in various forms (short stories, poems, personal reflections, etc.) that are then adapted for the stage and performed by their classmates. Through theater and writing exercises, students will explore specific writing techniques and styles to generate and refine material in consultation with classroom teachers.

Adapt Anything

Bringing the written word from page to stage

APPROPRIATE FOR GRADES 4 THROUGH

We live in an age of adaptation. From books becoming movies to toys becoming TV shows, students are inundated with examples of adaptation. Mudlark instructors will work with classroom teachers and students to critically examine and re-interpret the texts around them into compelling theater. Through a series of performance and writing prompts, students create their own adaptations and rehearse them for a final showcase.
